WHAT IS MA WAN EASTER EGG HUNT?
The Ma Wan Easter Egg Hunt started as a small gathering of families who came together to celebrate the true meaning of Easter in 2011. Parents buried Easter Eggs and candies in the sand for the children to hunt and dig up – of course the children had great fun! From this small beginning, this Easter Egg Hunt has grown continually to become what is now a significant event that welcomes thousands of happy hunters from Ma Wan and all over Hong Kong.
In 2016, Branches of Hope was welcomed in as our charitable partner. Branches of Hope pursues the restoration of dignity, justice and hope to refugees and asylum-seekers in Hong Kong.
Last year, over 100,000 yummy chocolates, candies, biscuits and drinks were enjoyed throughout the event thanks to more than 200 wonderful volunteers. Many joined in the Candy Team to help bury the special eggs, chocolate and candy. Others helped in our fun game booths, or used their skills in balloon twisting and face painting. Some assisted with registration, security or ushering. And other teams joined in the spirit of giving by sharing their talents in singing, dancing and skillful, meaningful performances.
We are thankful for the great media coverage through TVB news, Apple Daily News, the SCMP, and Ming Pao in the past few years. We will and continue to be very grateful to our many sponsors and partners working together to make this event possible.

Refugees and ASYLUM SEEKERS IN HONG KONG
The Ma Wan Easter Egg Hunt Committee members’ involvement with Branches of Hope began when they heard about the “What I have, I give” campaign that Branches of Hope were running in 2016. In the spirit of giving they decided to give and donate the net proceeds from the Ma Wan Easter Egg Hunt. Since then, they’ve become more involved in the stories of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Hong Kong, whether through witnessing the growing media exposure of worldwide refugee crisis, local events such as the Justice Conference Asia, or joining their hands with the refugee communities in Hong Kong to help out and support them.
In 2018, the Ma Wan Easter Egg Hunt was able to raise over HK$400,000 for Branches of Hope through the generosity of many of you - thank you. Although our fundraising effort last year was the most successful in our eight-year history of hosting the event, it was small in relation to the urgent needs of these communities of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Hong Kong.
